Our daughter had been taking riding lessons for a while, so we knew we would eventually want to get a horse. In January of 2022, we started with a mini donkey, Wookie, who is super sweet and loveable. A few days later we got Dixie, a 2 yr.-old paint horse. Dixie is the best-behaved horse and loves to get hugs and neck rubs! In October of 2022, we got another horse, Sugar, a 12-yr-old cow herding horse from Texas, so Jason and Alyvia could go riding together. In March of 2023 we added 2 more donkeys (Snookie and Rookie) to the herd. We enjoy riding the horses and loving on them all.

Horses & Donkeys

The horses and donkeys mainly graze in the pastures, but sometimes we supplement their diet with hay and sweet feed or all-stock pellets. As a treat they like peppermints, as crazy as that sounds.

Their medical care consists of a deworming medication twice a year (spring and fall), a seven-way vaccine every year, hoof care every month (horses) and every other month (donkeys) by the farrier, and any other medication or medical care as needed. The horse’s hooves were not growing like they needed to, so we now give them a hoof supplement to help ensure healthy hooves. When the flies or gnats are bad, we put the fly mask on the horses, and we fly spray them all help keep them more comfortable.
